The iPod Competitors.
Basically: none. In the last 5 years all the
iPod competitors have been beaten, frustrated
and ridiculed.
Infact, in the study of the highly successful
Apple Marketing Strategy, besides its overwhelming
success, the Apple iPod marks another outstanding
result: the annihilation of competitors.
A result that has very few other examples in
the history of marketing, and that according
to us will remain forever in the Marketing Strategy
Books and in marketing manuals and that will
be tought for centuries in our Universities.
Marketing gurus all around the world will cite
this example and study how it was accomplished.
Philip Kotler, Edward De Bono would undoubtely
congratulate Apple for this overwhelming achievement.
The iPod: Annihilation of the Competitors.
Let's examine some facts:
The iPod has ridiculed the Microsoft Zune -
the iPod has 75% of the market, the Zune does
not catch the 2% mark.
Until July 2008 Apple sold 150 million iPods.
in May 2008 Microsoft proudly announced they
have reached 2 million units sold. Congratulations.
If we were Microsoft we would be so ashamed
to live hiding in a cave for the next hundred
years.
Not to mention Creative Labs and the blatant statement
made by Creative Labs CEO, Sim Wong Hoo, in
november 2004. Mr. Sim Wong Hoo thundered: "I
intend to out-market the iPod and everyone else
in the music palyer market. The mp3 war has
started and I am the one who has declared war".
Creative Labs in november 2004 pledged to spend
$100m to out-market Apple in a bid to take the
market away from the iPod.
Sim Wong Hoo added: "It's our target to
beat iPod in this quarter". It was the
fourth quarter of 2004.
During the Q3 of 2004 Creative Labs grabbed
a mere 10% of the market.
In november 2004 the Creative Labs CEO, Sim Wong
Hoo said: "Creative is looking to take
40 per cent of the worldwide digital music player
market in 2005".
Well, we all know how it ended, between Creative
Labs and Apple.
We have no doubt that Steve Jobs dubs the Creative
Labs CEO as
"Mr. Sim Wong Who?"
If Mr. "Sim Wong Who" has something
to say we welcome his feedback on our contact
page at http://www.vertygoteam.com/contact.php.
We shall be very glad to publish his comments
on the Vertygo Team website.
