iPhone 3GS Launch.
Apple has launched a new iPhone: the iPhone
3GS.
The new iPhone has been unveiled on June 8,
2009 by Philip Schiller, Senior Vice President
of Worldwide Product Marketing of Apple, during
the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference -
WWDC - in San Francisco.
iPhone 3GS Features.
The iPhone 3GS looks unchanged in its design
and outlook, but the new features look impressive.
The iPhone 3GS features a 3 megapixel autofocus
camera, video recording and editing capabilities,
a hands free voice control, longer battery life,
and supports 7.2 Mbps HSDPA for faster networking
speeds.
iPhone 3GS offers increased speed and performance,
twice faster than the iPhone 3G, launching applications
faster and rendering web pages quicker.
The iPhone 3GS uses the OpenGL ES 2.0 standard
for high-quality 3D graphics.
The iPhone OS 3.0.
The iPhone 3GS includes the new iPhone OS 3.0,
a new, advanced mobile operating system featuring
Cut, Copy and Paste capabilities, MMS, Spotlight
Search, landscape keyboard for Mail, Messages,
and the Safari browser; the ability to capture
and send audio recordings.
Another feature the new iPhone OS 3.0 offers
is tethering, which lets a wireless phone act
like a modem and share its wireless Internet
connection with a nearby notebook PC.
Tethering with the iPhone works with both Macs
and PCs, wireless with Bluetooth. There's no
need to run any software once it's turned on.
However, the tethering feature requires carrier
support. 22 carriers in 42 countries will support
tethering on the iPhone 3GS right away.
AT&T will not.
Note: Tethering has been available on Palm Treo,
on the BlackBerry, and other devices for years.
Finally: Remote Wipe. In case of an emergency,
as if the iPhone gets stolen it is possible
to erase all personal data and content with
the Remote Wipe feature.
iPhone OS 3.0 software will be available on
June 17 as a free software update via iTunes
8.2 or later for all iPhone customers.
iPod touch customers will be able to purchase
a software update for $9.95.
iPhone 3GS Prices and
availability.
The iPhone 3GS is priced at $199 for the 16GB
model and at $299 for the 32GB model. The iPhone
3GS will be available for purchase starting
June 18, 2009 in the US, and by August in other
80 countries around the world.
The previous iPhone - the iPhone 3G - will be
still available and priced at $99.
iPhone 3GS Video and
Photo Capabilities.
The iPhone 3G S 3 megapixel camera adjusts focus,
exposure, color and contrast for the best possible
image and includes an automatic macro focus
for extra close up shots. With the new tap
to focus feature, you simply touch the
display to select an object or area of interest
and the camera automatically re-adjusts focus
and exposure. the iPhone 3G S makes it possible
to record video clips at 640x480 resolution
and edit them by trimming the start and stop
points. With iPhone 3G S it is possible to can
send photos and video by email or MMS and post
them to YouTube.
The iPhone 3GS features a built-in digital
compass for instant navigation. The compass
is integrated within Maps, so it orients any
map to the direction the user is facing.
