Google Chrome

Google Chrome. The Google Browser.

In September 2008 Google launched its new browser, named Google Chrome. The Google Chrome enters the browser competition challenging Microsoft Internet Explorer, which has the 73% of the browser market share, Firefox, which has 19%, and Apple Safari, with 6% of the browser market.

Our impressions on Google Chrome.

Our first impressions on Google Chrome were quite positive, the browser being quite fast in loading the pages - faster than Firefox and Internet Explorer - and "light", minimalist and simple as an application. Chrome is faster to launch than Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, and faster than Firefox.

Right after the Google Chrome launch we had the impression that Chrome was "lighter" and less resource demanding on the computer CPU.

Google Chrome is very friendly and easy to use, simplicity and clarity being again a kind of trademark for Google products.

After some time of using it and listening to the opinions of our professional user panel, we think Google Chrome is not so exciting. It has a tendency to crash quite easily, especially with more than one tab having Flash content. Several times it crashed with just two tabs opened on two YouTube pages.

Google Chrome Graphic User Interface

We do not like the graphic user interface of Google Chrome, quite childish in stye with those light blue hues which makes it look as a boy toy.
We hope Google graphic designers will either improve the graphic user layout, or develop skinning options similar to Firefox.

We would rather prefer a neutral browser skin, such as the Safari or the Firefox with Blue Ice 2 skin.

Google Chrome Market Share

From our sources we have the information that the current Google Chrome marketshare is between 1.5% and 3%. These numbers are very small and we think they are disappointing for Google. If these figures are confirmed the result is that Google Chrome is actually to be considered a flop, not having gained significant marketshare from Firefox, our preferred browser, or from Microsoft Internet Explorer.

We highly regard Google marketing strategies, but we regret that this time both the product both the strategies of Google do not appear to be winning ones.
